BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT is passionate about digital apprenticeships and as a professional body with 60,000 plus members, it says it’s a great way to start a fantastic well-paid career.
Tech has never been in such high demand in the workplace – but there’s a shortage of skilled people. This means, once trained and qualified, there are great job prospects because firms will need your expertise.
To help guide you, BCS has set up a brand-new careers page, where you can hear directly from apprentices’ themselves and sign up for a regular newsletter at Digital Skills for Careers go to bcs.org.
Digital skills are vital in all sectors, whether that be in construction, health, media, retail, travel and hospitality, banking or engineering – you name it and digital skills are in demand. IT spans many types of jobs and whichever role takes your fancy you can be pretty sure there’s an apprenticeship you can do.
The hot apprenticeships where there’s currently most demand includes data, business analyst, software, digital marketing and cybersecurity. As a digital marketeer, you could help deliver promotional campaigns on social media. As a cybersecurity expert, you could help beat hackers. As a Data Analyst, you could provide the facts needed to make crucial decisions.
Or maybe Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning appeals. AI is not all about self-driving cars – it’s used by both consumers and businesses to manage increasingly complex operations with speed, efficiency, and insight. Then there’s working as a Business Analyst, where you’d look at how companies make the best use of their technical systems, using data analysis, to improve efficiency. You can learn more about the future of AI and career opportunities in our latest bcs.org.
An apprenticeship lasts a minimum of one year. You’ll spend 80% of your time learning and getting valuable experience in the workplace and 20% off-the-job, taking part in structured training. Apprentices benefit from earning a wage and gaining a qualification at the same time, and there’s no cost involved for the training itself.
The qualifications you need to start an apprenticeship will depend on its level, organisation and job role. The main thing is you start at a point that suits you.
- Level 3 Apprenticeships are equivalent to two A-levels.
- Levels 4 Apprenticeships are equivalent to a foundation degree or above.
- Higher-level apprenticeships are equivalent to a degree or higher.
Digital apprenticeships are a fantastic way to start a career and by registering for the Digital Skills for Careers newsletter, you can find out how to progress in an exciting profession that is constantly evolving at a dynamic pace.
